I've been writing this blog as a nym for about a year. I like to wear a mask because my real life job is in an area wear most people get most of their information from MSNBC. To most of my co-workers, bitcoin is boiling the oceans, making people sick, and using more energy than the entire shithole country of whatever. Why would I want to use a cryptocurrency that destoys the planet when it only does 7 transactions per second? To them, bitcoin is evil because a noble prize winning economists said so. It is also useless, but used by criminals.

I got tired of hearing about quantum computing and other ridiculous arguments so I began writing about how I use bitcoin over the lightning network everyday. I followed K3tan's guide and set up a blog on a virtual private network. Then I used Yunohost on a raspberry pi until I learned about blogstack. Suddenly, I could host a blog without paying a monthly fee or becoming a Linux Systems Administrator.

I have also started coming out of my shell. I started a meetup and began meeting other hard-core bitcoiners and teaching Coinbasers how to take self-custody, why video games on a blockchain are scams, and how bitcoin can be used as a medium of exchange.

This is not another orange pill. There are no more orange pill books to be written. Like Satoshi said, "If you don't believe me or don't get it, I'm sorry, bur I don't have time to convince you."

This is not about reading charts or looking for dildos that would make a great pattern for an ugly Christmas sweater. I offer no price predictions because in 150 years, your great, great, great, great, great, great grandchildren will read about the fractional reserve fiat ponzi scheme in history books written by large language models. Meanwhile, fiat is an endangered species. I understand most people come to bitcoin for the fiat gains. I suspect my blog would be more popular if I wrote things like bitcoin will reach $1,000,000 in 48-72 hours according to my scribbles transcribed over a price chart. Sorry, I can't tell you what the fiat price of bitcoin will be within 72 hours or 72 years. I don't have a crystal ball. I don't know how to measure the scarcest asset in the world against this:

This is a guide designed to teach you how to use bitcoin as peer to peer electronic cash and store your wealth for seven generations. I would like to turn it into a book and sell more books than the woman who wrote Harry Potter, but I also think it is important to keep this information free for anyone who cannot afford it. The amount of money printing is making me more and more concerned about fiscal stability of the global financial system. This is not financial advice. It is a life jacket. Think of it as a seat cushion in an airplane. I hope you never need this flotation device, but I want it available, just in case. I hope our great senile leaders can fix this, but I wouldn't hold my breath, so I want to teach people how to use bitcoin before it's too late. But first, let's pop the purple pill..=

In the first chapter, I showed you the secret message Satoshi left in the genesis block, "Chancellor on the brink of second bailout for banks." In the second chapter, I wrote about why the Cypherpunks wanted private, electronic cash in the first place. The purpose of this chapter is to teach you how to use a custodial bitcoin wallet on a corner of the Internet where people use bitcoin for electronic payments. Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer electronic cash system that does not require a corporation or government. Nostr is The Internet without any corporations or government required to operate. If you sell stuff on Amazon, you must pay fees to Amazon. Therefore, Amazon is your master. If you sell stuff on a nostr powered marketplace like Shopstr, you have no master.

Covid taught us the collective tend towards authoritarianism during times of crisis(perceived or otherwise). The Twitter Files taught us there is a partnership with legacy social media and agents of the United States Government. If a legacy social media company in the United States is not controlled by a U.S. corporation, expect them to ban it unless it can be sold to an US corporation. If the government trending towards a "closed society" cuts off your bank account for protesting forced vaccinations, these communication networks become important. Nostr makes sending payments to bitcioners as easy as Venmo without any government imposed red tape.

The Social Bitcoin Payment Layer

Nostr has become the de-facto, social bitcoin payment layer. Most people still think of it as a boring alternative to addictive social media like Twitter, but it is much more than this. This guide is published on habla.news a website that allows anyone with an npub to publish long-form content. People can send me sats for this content and I can send sats to content creators and developers.

Nostr has a marketplace similar to what you might find on Zuck's face tracking book. It has YouTube like video and twitter spaces like audio. To use these tools, you will first need to create a public/private key pair. Your public key, npub, can be shared with anyone. Your private key, nsec, must remain a secret. If your nsec is compromised, your identity is compromised and we can no longer trust your notes are from you. That would suck, but it's good practice for storing bitcoin keys. If your identity gets compromised, you could spin up a new one. If you lose the keys to your life savings, it won't be so easy to get it back.

Current, A KYC Free Custodial Bitcoin Social Wallet

Current Tutorial

Nostr is a decentralized communications protocol that stands for notes and other stuff transmitted by relay

Available on Google Play and The App Store.

Available in the jurisdiction with the most draconian anti-privacy laws.

Uses a 12 word backup

Gives you a nostr key pair.that can be used with all nostr services.

Includes a free custodial lightning address.

Keep in mind that this is a custodial wallet so not your keys not your bitcoin applies. This is a beginner wallet that allows anyone on the nostr network to send you sats, but you don't want to use this for your life savings. The wallet also has cutting edge features like data vending machines that allow you to pay for AI generated images and chats. You can even use AI to turn text to voice, but we will not cover these advanced features in this guide.

Fix The Money, Fix The Music

!zap]()

Bitcoin is not my first rodeo with peer -to-peer technology. In college, I was a big Napster nerd which makes me old enough to remember downloading Metalica songs over the telephone line. Each song took about 34 minutes to download until we got high speed Internet a few year later. Suddenly, the music industry lost it's walled garden. Lars, the drummer for Metallica, was pissed because anyone with an Internet connection could just download their music via file sharing. The record labels were scared so they used the long arm of the law to sue kids downloading stuff on their computers. They did not understand that information wants to be free.

Napster was shut down, but the cypherpunks created BitTorrent in reaction to this news. BitTorrrent downloads pieces of each song using distributed hash tables and other nerdy cryptographic stuff. At one point, Bittorrent accounted for about 35% of Internet traffic This made the record companies change tactics and introduce streaming services, also known as subscription hell. These services require the listener to pay a monthly fee to stream any music they want. Nowadays, it's easier to just pay the $16.00 a month or whatever the music service ransomware fee is these days, to listen to any song you want.

The trouble is, the lion's share of the money goes to the suits, while the artists get pennies, if anything. This gives power, and most of the money to corporations, while simultaneously screwing the artists. There are other alternatives like Tidal who promise to give more of the money to the musicians. but nostr now gives us another way to support our favorite musicians with something called value for value...Ugh..I'm not sure what the hell this is called--But it's freaking awesome! It allows us to pay musicians in interesting ways without going through a recording Industry institution

For example, while listening to The Bitcoin And Podcast, Nunya Bidness said the following(transcript from fountain):

This is not the first ime Nunya Bidness has done this, but this was the first time I heard him play an artist I've seen on nostr. Come to think of it, I've also seen her on BlueSky and I know she held some zapstream concert a while back. The combination of these things made something in my brain click so I boosted this part of the show. Then I went on Twitter to ask Ansley if she got the zap. She happened to be on some Twitter Spaces or something, but was kind enough to reply back to me.

Nostr Gives Power Back To The People

To recap, I was dong chores while listening to The Bitcon And Podcast. The host of the show, Nunya Bidness told us about Wavlake's new nostr alternative to TicketSlaveMaster(<np-embed nostr="note1dqhyujc8hd3mvqxcymvemawfelz022mjvec2a5xqhxmt2c3jfqfqj93pnn">nostr:note1dqhyujc8hd3mvqxcymvemawfelz022mjvec2a5xqhxmt2c3jfqfqj93pnn</np-embed>) named TicketBot. Here's a quote from WavLake's blogpost.

"The potential here is great. Imagine an artist having the ability to sell tickets to preferred individuals at scale, using prior engagement as a way to filter out the true fans from the resellers. Tickets could be verifiable using cryptography. Once sales open to the public, the availability of tickets could be transparent for all to see. And any secondary market sellers would not have to be locked into a specific website.

All of this is possible."

This means, nostr can fix scalping. The tickets can go to the fans willing to pay sats to the artist before being released to the rent-seeking ticket scalpers. No exclusive credit card benifits that let people with good social credit scores buy tickets first. It gives power to see concerts to the true fans instead of the people with VIP credit scores that cane game the system. In other words, it removes the Cantillon effect ticket scalpers enjoy, but I digress.

Nunya Bidnes set up zap splits on his podcast 2.0. Podcasting 2.0 apps like Fountain.fm allow you to send stream or boost sats to your favorite content creator. Nunya Bidness is on the cutting edge of this technology. He set up his podcast to automatically forward boosts sent during the music plying portion of the show to the artist. Thus, when I sent a thousand sats to is podcast, fountain.fm forwarded those thousand sats to [Ainsley Costello](Ainsley Costello). This is what we can do with programmable money. It doesn't need to stop there. In the future, we can use this technology to:

Pay bills

Use Smart Home technology without surveillance.

Make charitable donations

I started writing this blog two years ago. It's my third attempt at writing a bitcoin blog. I My Economics teacher in High Schools was part owner of a small bank before changing careers. He taught us how little one needs to start a bank because of a concept called fractional reserve banking. I felt it was an unfair system, but powerless to do anything about it. This was about 735,840 ten minute intervals before January 3rd, 2009, give or take.

309,334 blocks after the genesis block, I heard about it on the Joe Rogan Experience and went down the rabbit hole. I used it as my poker bankroll because I lost a little money trusting it with Full Tilt Poker. After about six months of stacking, I heard Wences Casares say there is a 50% chance bitcoin will reach a price of $1,000,000 within 15-20 years on block 366,235. I told my then girlfriend(now wife), "I know this sounds crazy, but there's a decent chance this bitcoin thing I've been using to play online poker with will be worth a million bucks in like 20 years. It would be a mistake to not save some. "

The poker site converted my bitcoin to fiat to save me from the volatility. I made about a .03% return on my poker playing skills, but the price of bitcoin doubled so I stopped playing online poker and took self custody of my bitcoin. I then played small no limit hold em cash home games, 4-8 Limit Hold Em with a Kill at San Manuel, and a tournament at Pechanga about once a month. If I won, I would deposit the cash into my bank account and buy more bitcoin on coinbase until they sent me a nasty letter. If I lost, the sats were gone, but we didn't use the term 'sats" back then. The casino games were much softer. I made about the minimum wage in those days. I always felt embarrassed about how little I made, but in retrospect, I'll never make that much money again. Few understand this.

I also use bitcoin everyday. Back then I sent 'a buck a show' to Dan Carlin. Each "buck" must be worth more than $200 today. I once took a trip to San Francisco in 2015 and asked the poor woman at the Golden Gate toll booth, "Do you accept bitcoin?"

"No, what's that?" she asked.

My wife still tells this story to her friends. They laughed at me for a few years. I talked about it so much, my daughter bought me this shirt in 2020.

I went to my brother in law's bachelor party around block 347,801 and spread the good news about bitcoin. I've never seen a stripper look so bored. She said, "So do you like buy drugs on the Internet?”

My wife got tired of me talking about bitcoin, so she suggested I write about it online and join bitcoin groups online. I decided to write about using bitcoin.

I still think bitcoin is the greatest thing since sliced gold, but most people don't want to talk about bitcoin. They like to talk about how many fiat fuckery bucks they can buy with 100 million sats. Fiat is boring unfair and buys less and less stuff. I don't want to read about fiat prices. I don't want to read how bitcoin is useless water boiling technology, so I decided to write about how I use bitcoin everyday.

I earned a B.A. in creative writing.

The alarm ringtone on my phone is a reading of "So You Want To Be A Writer,” by Charles Bukowski My wife got tired of me talking about bitcoin, so she suggested I write about it and join bitcoin groups online.

In high school, my favorite book was Tropic of Cancer. It was banned in the United States until 1973 when he won Miller vs. California which overturned obscenity laws and strengthened the first amendment. Guess I've always been a first amendment maxi. It's why I love Phil Zimmermann's story. It's one reason I write on nostr. Why I believe nostr is important. Why I don't like the government interfering with corporate social media. Why the government should free Jullian Assange. Why I enjoy finding creative ways to use swear words.

"If you can't say fuck, then you can't say fuck the government."

--Lenny Bruce

TikTok Next Block

I sometimes see Xwitter BTC maxis say things like

"I don't understand nostr."

"The juice is not worth the squeeze"

:"Nostr is like yelling buy bitcoin in the closet,"

I won't name names, but they say nostr is unimportant. The fight for better money belongs on the corporate controlled platforms. I disagree. Nostr is freedom of speech protected by a communications protocol. In other words, bitcoin computer networking nerds using their computer networking skills to build a censorship resistant communications protocol. We achieve this with cryptography, but it is not another one of those blockchain pump n dump schemes you may have heard about on YouTube.

I don't watch the news much, but I heard Congress passed a bill to ban TikTok. It still just a bill on the hill or however that song goes, but it's pretty alarming . By the way, back in the day, I subscribed to Rolling Stone just to read [Matt Tiabbi](Matthew Taibbi) . I got to teach him to download wallet of satoshiabout a year ago. I hope he still has access to those sats.

I've never Tiked nor Toked, but like it or not: Code is speech. TikTok developers write code. I may not agree with this code, but how the hell should I know? It's not open source. All social media should be open source. If it's a threat to national security that is. If it's a security hole, we need as many people as we can get reading the code. "See something, say something, but don't read that insecure code," might not be the most game theoretically optimal way to protect national security. That's just my two sats.

Am I concerned the CCP has access to American's information? Sure, but I'm also concerned that American corporations have access to American's information. Those corporations are notoriously bad at keeping this information secure. Forcing the sale of a Chinese corporation to an American corporation does not fix this.

Bitcoin taught me the most important thing you can do to keep information safe is to keep it off the Internet. Giving Corporations your phone number, address, political affiliations, address, and selfies of your inner thighs is no way to safeguard private information. I would support a bill that requires all social media platforms to stop collecting all personal data. I also want to ride a unicorn, but there's nothing I can do about that either, but I can write on nostr.

Can the Chinese Communist Party use TikTok to manipulate US elections? I'd bet a hundred sats they can. I'd bet you a thousand sats they can use American social media platforms to do the same thing.

Nostr is not a platform controlled by a single cabal. It allows us to create connections on the Internet without giving anyone our email address, credit card number, the secret 3 digit code on the back of our credit cards required to spend fiat on the Internet. You literally must give your keys to the corporations so they can collect a monthly fee like a tax. Nostr does not ask for a phone number. If China steals my nostr key, they won't even get my legal name.

How did we get here? The red team and the blue team can't agree on anything except who should be in charge of the Federal Reserve and TikTok must be sold. It's almost as if the two old fart candidates were pre-ordained. It certainly wasn't up for debate. So far, neither candidate participated in one of those.

I suspect the censoring algorithms are the real Matrix, Why else has political discourse been reduced to trivial low time preference issues. We're manipulated into arguing about pronouns, race, and class, but not to talk to each other like human beings. On nostr, you can have a cordial conversation and send sats to transgendered people, black people. white people(even white people living in Russia), expats living in China, and billionaire's alike. We don't talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion because we include the whole world and consider each other peers.

The the political arena is a shit-show. They talk about low time preference problems on stage. What other problems can a president in his 80’s solve? What will they do about the 34.5 trillion dollar problem? Another glittering generality, another budget double the size of all the wealth the billionaire's own?

We, The People of the world speak on nostr.

The answer to safeguarding American, or any other citizen of the world's information is simple: DON'T GIVE IT TO AWAY. If it's so important the Chinnese Communist Party be denied access to this information, the information is also too sensitive to be trusted with American corporations. What if the CCP were to hack Twitter? This is not so far fetched. The platform was hacked before.

DISCLAIMER: Do not send bitcoin to people old enough to have sent more snail mail than email, especially if they say they will double your bitcoin.-- This is not financial advice, but in case you didn't know, Those things are always scams.*

Every Bitcoiner worth his or her sats knows you must assume anything you put on the Internet is pwned. For those of you born before WWII, that means you must assume criminals and foreign adversaries possess that information. That's why any bitcoiner worth his or her sats doesn't keep their bitcoin keys in the cloud. If you want our data out of the hands of the CCP, you must assume the American corporate social media will eventually get hacked by the CCP. When this happens, passing the Dear Commy China Party Don't Use Our Data Against Us Pretty Please law won't help.

Or, we could just use social media without putting our sensitive data on the line. We could use a censorship resistant communications protocol that doesn't require an email or password. We can own our own content. We can cryptographically notarize everything we write. They can't manipulate my algorithms because their are no algorithms. There is no corporation to force sell. Well...there's a 501c nonprofit corporation that funds some of the devs, and Jack Dorsey is damn generous, but that's not the same thing.

That's why I write on nostr.

Bitcoin IOU's

There are many ways to stack sats. The easiest way is to sell fiat on a KYC regulated exchange. Most exchanges differ from an ETF because they will usually, but not always, send you the bitcoin you buy. Here is how one would go about selling fiat on an exchange in the US:
• Sign Up for an account by providing your email, password, and phone number.
• Send them A picture of your driver’s license.
• Take a mug shot of your face. Some places require you to include a picture of your ID with the mug shot.
• Give them Your Social Credit Score Number(A.K.A. your Social Security Number).
• Provide them your phone numbers
• If someone wanted to steal your bitcoin, where can they find you? This question is often phrased like this: "What is your home address?"
• According to Guy Swann, you're also must send “a picture of your butt-hole”. That’s not actually true, but it's hilarious.

I’m not going to get sanctimonious about this. I believe it makes sense to have a little KYC stack, say a million sats to pay off your mortgage. Why so bearish? Because I won’t teach you how to stack sats without even if you don’t have an ID issued by the government. What if you didn’t have bitcoin, but had to flee? What if your Identity did not give you permission to the financial system around you? I want you to get as many non-KYC free bitcoin as possible, even if you already have bitcoin. Here’s why:
KYC free sats have the smallest attack surface. Thieves can't steal your bitcoin if they don't know where to find it. What about the IRS? Thieves can't steal your bitcoin if they don’t know where to find it. Punative taxes or a 6102 style executive order are not the only threats. If you get sued, would you prefer to have peer-to-peer bitcoin or bitcoin that HODLs your mug shot? How effective will your boating accident alibi work in such a situation?
This is not to say there is absolutely no place for KYC'd sats. For a while, I was able to pay my water bill with bitcoin. It doesn't make sense to spend KYC free sats to pay your waterbill. They know my government name and where I live. It does make sense to make the sats I pay my waterbill with private. What if my non-private bitcoin I use to pay my waterbill shows people at the water plant I have a million sats—Enough to buy a three bedroom house with a food forrest.? Privacy matters. Maybe I don’t want my bitcoin to be like Venmo.

You shouldn’t need to give anyone an ID to try using bitcoin. You did not learn about money by opening a bank account with a fraction of cash in the vault. Your dad gave you cash for the ice cream truck. You bought tokens to play games at Chuck E Cheese. You bought chips at the liquor store with cash. You did not buy chips at the Belagio and begin betting on black. Money is something someone gives to you, something you earn, something you pay others with—something you save. This is not investment advice because this is not an investment. It is a new electronic cash system.

Your First Wallet

In a perfect world, you would have learned how to count hexadecimals in grade school and bitcoin would make perfect sense. This is not a perfect world we live in however. Most of the 8 billion people in the world don't know about hexadecimals. This is understandable since most of them are born with 10 fingers. If we had 15 fingers, things might be different, but we don't.
I wish this wasn't so, but it's unrealistic to think everyone can start off using self sovereign bitcoin. It was easier a decade ago. You only needed to write down 12 words. Each block reward was 25 bitcoin and only a handful of nerds used it. The fees were so low, I never noticed them until around 2017.
It no longer makes sense to buy $20.00 worth of bitcoin onchain. This is especially true if you don't know what the fuck you are doing. That's okay. Unless you were hanging out on the Cypherpunk mailing list prior to 2009, we've all been there. Fees are a market. If you don't know how they work, you could spend all your sats on fees. There’s a learning curve.
The first axiom is: You must be cautious and careful when making significant bitcoin transactions on the main chain.
If you lose twenty bucks worth of sats, it will suck, but it's not the end of the world. If you lose an amount of value greater than anything you have ever imagined, it will be the end of the world as you know it.
Therefore, it makes sense to use a noncustodial wallet at first, but keep that first principle in mind. We already If $20 is a significant amount of money for you, treat it with extreme caution. If you make $25 an hour, getting rug-pulled by a shady wallet will still suck, but you'll feel better after yelling a few F-bombs.
Your Sats on A Custodial Wallet Are At Risk
It's not likely that a custodial wallet will steal your sats. You are more likely to see a custodial wallet pull out of your market. Xapo closed it's doors to US customers due to regulatory concerns ages ago. A few weeks ago, wallet of Satoshi did the same. I had 27 sats on my wallet of satoshi and was able to withdraw them. If I dropped my phone in the toilet, those sats could be gone forever, (although I could just change the location of my phone using a VPN). The point is to use custodial wallets wisely.
Remember the golden rule of bitcoin ”Not your keys, not your bitcoin."
A custodial bitcoin wallet is not your bitcoin. This is important.

I made a video about the current app to show you how to make a nostr key on a cell phone. This app is easy, and it does give you a lightning address, but it's limited to one app while the Alby extension is interoperable with a multitude of clients like primal.net, habla.news, flockstr and hundreds more. This is great because passwords suck. My password manager has thousands of entries by now. It's a pain in the ass to use at this point. First, I wait for the site to load on Tor which is not the fastest browser in the world. Then I enter my password, search for the site, copy the user name, paste the username, copy the password, paste the password and finally click the button.

With Alby you login with your nostr key so you only need to type in your password once per session. There"s no reason to sign up for an account or five anybody else your email.

It"s easy to get started, but allows advanced users to connect it to their own node. In the following video, I will show you how.

Create an Alby Account

Create a personalized lightning address

Recover a nostr key using your 12 word backup

Create your profile

Login to several nostr sites with the click of a button.

By the end of the video, you'll know how to set up a nostr key and be ready to receive sats on the Internet. But wait...There's more. Most clients try to re-create the Xwitter experience without the corporate/government censorship complex, but it's a communication protocol, not a platform. Nostr is more akin to html than Xwitter. Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Meetup.com, Linktree, Substack, Medium, forims, gmail,Firefox, Pinterst, eBay,TikTok and morr. There is a version of all of these on the nostr protocol and they are censorship resistant.

The first meetup was a success. I met one person who lived near me over coffee. He even runs Node and Nostr Relay. What are the odds? I assume it's really low. According to Clark Moody's dashboard, there are about 17,000 available nodes. I haven't verified this number, but this is the first person I met in the wild who runs a bitcoin node.

This gives me hope. I know starting a meetup on a little-known Internet protocol has a snowball's chance in a pizza oven of working, but I'm rationally optimistic. I saw a lot of plebs post their npubs on Saturday because the Twitter chief pissed them off. I don't know why, but it's indicative of the importance of permission-less computer networking. I used to rub my peach fuzz and think the Internet would give people power back from the corporations. TV was just a way to sell soap, drugs, and cars. The corporations didn't even let you use the word "ass." Then they had experts like Colin Powell tell us Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. I didn't believe him because I watched the videos of trucks and warehouses, but evidence of trucks and warehouses is not evidence of weapons. Who was the conspiracy theorist? Me, or Colin Powell? I thought the Internet would fix this. I was active on MySpace and there were no ads.

more speech

Then Facebook happened. Then Instagram, which had no ads at first, until it got bought by facebook. Then Facebook experimented with affecting people's moods. . Things got strange. In 2016, the Donkey team accused Russians of influencing the elections. [Cambridge Analytica did some fuckery]9https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge_Analytica#Elections) I don't fully understand, allegedly influencing elections is the US, Australia, India, Kenya, Matla, Mexico, and the UK. In 2020, the Elephant team accused the elections of being rigged. So for about 8 years, a significant portion of the united states as not trusted the results of an election. What do you think the odds of distrust in this upcoming election? I wouldn't bet many sats on it going smoothly.

"A third point is the confirmation of the central role that former spies played in October 2020 in framing the Hunter Biden story in a way that made it easier for Twitter and Facebook to justify their censorship." (Wall Street Journal)

When you zoom out, you realize this is not just about American politics. Similar things are happening all over the world. One day, you see riots in Shi Lanka. A few months later riots in France. Many people blame free speech, but what is free about the algorithms? Facebook also has the right to write code. Code is speech, cypherpunks write code. In my opinion, Facebook is bad speech. The answer to bad speech is more speech Nostr is more speech, better speech in my opinion.

"Cryptography is a surprisingly political technology. In recent years, it has become more so, with the controversy surrounding the Government's Clipper chip, the FBI wiretap legislation, export controls on cryptographic software, and the balance of power between a government and its people. Historically, cryptography has been used mainly by governments for diplomatic and military traffic. But with the coming of the information age, ubiquitous personal computers, modems, and fax machines, this is changing. With an emerging global economy depending more and more on digital communication, ordinary people and companies need cryptography to protect their everyday communications. Law enforcement and intelligence agencies want access to all of our communications, to catch people who break the law, and detect threats to National Security. Civil libertarians want to keep the Government out of our private communications, to protect our privacy and maintain a healthy democracy."

Nostr Fixes This

nostr apple

I don't like talking about politics because so many people are programmed to get triggered when you mention certain hot-button topics, but it's possible to use cryptography in a way to preserve freedom. The Twitter files revealed government censorship on the blue bird app. This is relevant to us because public key cryptography because there are no twitter files. The government needs to censor all the relays, not just a single corporation that is too afraid to pay for advertising on shows that use the word "shit." It's time we start thinking of using technology in terms of the Sovereign Individual. Normies debate weather or not a web developer or graphic designer should be compelled to write code or create art they don't agree with. Meanwhile, I used free and open source software to make my own webpage, but if you don't know HTML, Chat GPT does. Apple can ban zaps from their apps, but can they ban SamSamskies from writing code? <np-embed url="https://notazap.lol/">https://notazap.lol/</np-embed>

Until nostr, we didn't have freedom on corporate-controlled, government-censored social media. This is not a blog about politics. It's about communication. I don't want the red team or the blue team to control what the public may or may not see.. There is not a real person named meetup.com just like my mother did not name me blogging bitcoin. I'm amazed that anybody showed up to this meetup at all. It was an awesome experience.

I signed up for the Orange Pill app and found a few Bitcoiners near me. I hit a few up and it's cool to chat online, but it feels wierd. As someone who spends more time explaining bitcoin to fiat maxis than I'd like to admit, what gives? I chat with a few people and they seemed cool. They're bitcoiners! They do interesting stuff like give the bitcoin standard to members of congress and mine bitcoin, but it feels strange.

I'm sorry Orange Pill App. It's not you, it's me.

The Orange Pill App was first marketed as an e-harmony for Bitcoiners. If I was a single sat stacker, I'd love to serenade a single lady with my rendition of the BTC sea shanties, but I am in a different stage of life. I'm happily married, with children. I even have a grandchild.

Back in the day, I perused plenty of fish on the regular. I met about half a dozen women on the OG social media website Myspace. Myspace made you code your page. I learned the basics if HTML by creating a Myspace account and "copy pasta'd" CSS to make an amazing Myspace profile. Myspace was the best dating app ever for a good looking nerd like me.

I understand many single bitcoiners want to meet other single bitcoiners to stack sats and make bitcoiner babies, but the orange pill app is full of dudes . If you're a single bitlady, you'll have no problem finding a bitdude, but if you're a guy, expect a steep dating difficulty adjustment.

The Orange Pill App Is Awesome For Meetups

At this point, the orange-pill app is a sausage fest, but it has a few good things going for it. Don't worry, you'll all get girlfriends after a few halfinings. Here's why I still like The Orange Pill App.

They encourage you to post an npub.

Bitcoiners can add events

Or discover Events

Although you're unlikely to find **hodling hotties, **you might meet make a friend or two. I find starting a meetup is easier because I feel weird inviting another man for coffee. It just feels like I'm asking a guy on a date gay. If that's your thing--I support you. Please start a bitcoin gay bar meetup. Bitcoin is for everybody. I just feel awkward asking dudes out for coffee.

The Riverside Bitcoin Meetup sends a different message. It's a nym like Blogging Bitcoin, but I won;t go around introducing myself as Riverside Bitcoin Meetup. It's more of a nym like Target. You recognize the red bullseye, but you know there's not somebody named Tim Target or something. It's a corporation. What is a corporation, but a government sanctioned nym? The Riverside Bitcoin Meetup is like that, but permissionless. It does not have any stocks, nor issue any bonds. It uses public key cryptography like this:

npub1rvrsde6r0w7unk3am48md5us4gsx536dq5qh6utedkhhemq3hxesehc89n

But it **issues no CrYpToCuRrEnCy and will not have an ICO. **

There are no tokens, just to be clear, but I did create a lightning address.

Why Does This Meetup Accept Bitcoin?

There are some costs. Here is what I have spent on this endevour so far:

Nostrsites.com 10,000 sats

A website that lets anyone to easily create a webpage by posting html as a nostr event. Paste the note id into nostrsites and it will render you a webpage. If you know how to write your own html code, you can do this completely free. The premium version allows you to use markdown and some other easier tools. I haven't tried them because I created my html index file before I knew about this. I paid for the premium service to support the developer, @BTCapsule and I prefer the human readable url. You can also add your own custom domain if you have it.

Orange Pill App 10,000 sats this month. ? sats next month. 330,000 sats for a lifetime membership(at the time of this writing)

I could have just hosted the website on TOR, but nobody would ever find it. I'm confident that I can make this amount of sats in a month on nostr anyway. Not to brag, but I make enough to cover this, by writing this blog and answering people's questions about nostr. Last month, I even bought lunch with the sats I earned. That was fun, but I like the idea of using the little amount I earn on giving back to the community. My high school economics teacher didn't only teach his class about fractional reserve banking. He also taught us about the theory of marginal utility. The first 3,000 sats are worth more than (3,003,000 - 3,000,000) sats. If I haven't eaten for a week, I would spend all my sats on a sandwich, but blogging bitcoin is a nym. Blogging Bitcoin doesn't need to eat, so he can afford to spend even the smallest income he receives writing on building a community.

I also have adopted the value 4 value model. I bet if Riverside Bitcoin Meetup creates enough value, it will at least receive enough value to cover the costs. Even if it doesn't, I believe I will recieve enough value out of this to justify the cost.

Why Is The Riverside Bitcoin Meetup Not On Meetup.com

It's not like "I'm having fun staying poor" and can't afford 15 bucks a month for meetup.com or even that I'm cheap. Well..I am cheap, but that's not why I didn't sign up for meetup.com. I'm not even mad that they banned me. It's a practical badge of honor. I didn't sign up for meetup.com because of something Matt Ridley calls, "rational optimism."

I am rationally optimistic that bitcoin will become the most widely used currency in the world within my lifetime. I am almost certain my son will not use a bank and I doubt my granddaughter will ever experience inflation. Some have compared bitcoin to cyber warfare, but I disagree. Bitcoin is a peaceful monetary revolution. It requires no violence. Nobody needs the guillotine. No need to lock up the bankers. Just opt-out of your savings account. Learn to take self-custody. It's not that hard. Don't believe otherwise. Buy a few things in the circular economy. Spend and replace if it makes you feel better.

I also believe nostr is a peaceful revolution on the Internet. In twenty years, we won't need giant data harvesting corporations to host servers for us the same way we won't need banks. Twenty years ago, you had to write html to create a social media account on Myspace. The nostr revolution will take us back to the days when you people created their own identities, but it's decentralized. The fact that Apple banned Damus because Apple can't take 30% of zaps is bullish as fuck. It means a three trillion dollar government sanctioned nym can't tax your bitcoin like it can tax the fiat payment rails. The default BTCpayServer store is a tea shop. I don't think tea was chosen by accident. In 1773, King George III couldn't auto-debit taxes from colonists because money was metal. Taxes could only be levied by force, but the colonists got pissed at the tea tax. They dressed up like Mohicans and dumped tea into the Boston harbor. They wrote essays using names like Brutus and Publius in the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers. They used cryptography like the Jefferson Disk to secure their communications. They didn't ask the Indian Trading Company for Permission to meet in the Salons.

I want to use public key cryptography, under a pseudonym to create a local, virtual community. I don't bemoan the established meetups. Some of them have been around for several years and nostr only became more popular about 6 months ago. The idea of a virtual community such as this comes from the father of the Cypherpunks, Timothy C. May.

Virtual Community

"Virtual communities, mentioned earlier, are networks of individuals or
groups which are not necessarily closely connected geographically. The word
“virtual” is meant to imply a nonphysical linking, but should not be taken to
mean that these are any less community-like than are conventional physical
communities.
The “Coven” in True Names is such a virtual community. Other examples
include churches, service organizations, clubs, criminal gangs, cartels, fan
47
groups, etc. The Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts are both examples of
well-established virtual communities that span the globe, transcend national
borders, and create a sense of allegiance, of belonging—a sense of
“community.”

I don't think Tim May was talking about Facebook or meetup.com when he spoke of these communities and we are finally reaching the point where it's easy enough for an Uncle Jim to run Matrix Servers, host websites over TOR, etc. I'm the Uncle Jim. At first, I just want to get together for coffee to discuss how to promote bitcoin. One guy I talked to knows much more about mining then me. Good. I don't want to be the smartest guy in the room about bitcoin anymore. I also do not plan on turning this virtual community into a criminal gang, but I like the idea of a club where payment is not required, but you have to hold a nostr key to be notified of events. Unfortunately, this is in conflict with the whole promoting bitcoin, so it doesn't make sense to keep it this way, but it's fun to mess around like this for a few months.

Nostr is a peaceful revolution because we don't need to protest into the facebook blacklist void, dox ourselves for a blue check, or enter a credit card into meetup.com. The OrangePill App is 3.00 a month, and I wish they would take bitcoin again. I would also like an apk file hosted on gitea, but that's an argument for another day. I would rather support a bitcoin focused company than a silicon valley start-up that's so close to the money printer spigot.

**I am bootstrapping a bitcoin meetup without twitter or meetup.com. **I don't know if it will work, but at least I didn't sign up for meetup.com because I need to try. If it doesn't work, I can always join meetup.com later. I bet we can even get the community to pay for it. It only takes 10 people zapping about 4,500 sats per month. I expect the price to go down in the next year or two as well.

We don't need to dump out big brother eye-phones into the sea. We can just use a plethora of other clients and

<np-embed url="https://www.notazap.lol/">https://www.notazap.lol/</np-embed>

to circumvent their draconian rules. Again, this is a peaceful revolution. We don't even need to boycott this trillion dollar government sanctioned nym.

Public Key Cryptography

I also want to limit the initial members to people who understand public key cryptography enough to manage a nostr key. This does guarantee they are maxis, but it creates a natural filter. I want a good base built before the crypto yield chasers evangelize ShibuPepe NFT's or whatever. Once I meet a few people and collaborate on projects, we might agree to a meetup.com site, but it feels good to be un-bannable.

How I Did It

I used a template from w3 schools, changed some stuff, added an image I made using stable diffusion. Then I created a nostr chat room and substack. I host the website on Nostrsites.com. Check it out.

<np-embed url="https://nostrsites.com/riversidebtc">https://nostrsites.com/riversidebtc</np-embed>

I also host the same page over TOR using Start9 pages.

I announce the location of the meetups in the nostr chat.I included a link to the chatroom.

I'll also announce them on the Orange Pill App. If a pleb wants to be notified of our next event, he(there are no women on the Orange Pill App near me) can sign up to the Substack or find us on the Orange Pill app.

I don't like the idea of collecting emails, but I wanted to leave the door open to neophytes who have not yet learned how to properly manage keys. In retrospect, I would have used an anonymous re-mailer like the cryptography mailing list, but I've never hosted one of those before.

Then I created a second account on the orange pill app, The Riverside Bitcoin Meetup.

The first meetup is on Saturday. I have one RSVP so far. That's a good start. I'll let you know how it goes.

to circumvent their draconian rules.

I have tried writing blogs on:

yalls.org

BTCpayServer over TOR

bludit

Wordpress

Ghost

and now nostr

Nostr is different. No need for hosting services or a virtual private server. You don't need to host it on a rasberry pi or computer. No need to buy a domain. Satoshi tried fixing DNS with a shitcoin called Namecoin, but it didn't work. Blogs on nostr don't need DNS. No need to ask for someone's email or send them spam. They could just follow you on one of several nip 26 enabled nostr blogging sites like Blogstack or Habla.news

Blogging On Nostr Is Different

I only started publishing on nostr a few weeks ago, but this seems different. There's something about the censorship resistance on nostr. Even when I have hosted websites/blogs on my own computer, I have censored myself either because the power went out or I was busy banging my head against the keyboard to figure out what the %@&! I did with the ports.

I was able to to accept sats on my blog using btcpayserver. I first got the idea in 2019 when I came accross yalls.com. Anyone with a lightning node could create a paywalled article. This motivated me to run a lightning node before you could just spin up an Umbrel.

In a few years to finally set up BTCpayServer. I didn't feel comfortable with Putty. I didn't even understand it was a program used to ssh into a Linux computer from Windows...but guess what?

You don't need to do that anymore. You just need a nostr key and a lightning address.

Write.

People will pay you if they find what you write valuable.

With nostr, you just need to write. It helps to know markdown, but you don't need to. I learned Markdown by blogging for a year on Ghost. Even though many of my earlier blogs sucked a big ding-dong, learning markdown really helped but I learned mostly by following this cheat sheet.

I mention this because I wanted to give you some background on why I started this blog. I love learning this stuff. This is way more interesting than drooling BTC/USD charts. I wanted to write a blog about how I use bitcoin, not what I think the price in USD will be by block 1,050,001.

Why I Created This Tutorial

504 or so blocks ago, someone asked me:

Hey I was just looking at blogstack.io - I want to start writing blogs on nostr and that could get zapped, is blogstack.io the right place to do this?

Is there a guide to doing so?

How would people zap?

Does a blog post show up in nostr apps?

Can I use my same nostr key I’m using here to publish that blog post?

One other question, can people comment on a blog post?

Instead of answering via text, I thought these questions could better be answered over PeerTube. So I've decided to show and not tell you how to start your own blog on Nostr. Be sure to click my affiliate link...Just kidding. There's no referral link like most other blog tutorials have. Even the Minimalists have hosting services affiliate links.

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to start a blog today with no hosting, no coding, not even an email. You just need a nostr key.

Before I begin, I want to reiterate that this is a** new blogging business model**. Most blogs like Mr. Money Mustache, use affiliate marketing to monetize thier blogs. Some, like The Marginalian use donations. She even has a legacy bitcoin address. She also funds her blog with affiliate links. The Minimalists don't have ads because they say ads suck, but they have a video that teaches you how to start your own blog using WordPress using shared hosting from an affiliate link.

If you want to start a blog the traditional way, watch The Minimalist Video. It's pretty good. They inspired me to create my own blog, but I want to have my readers pay me directly in bitcoin. I also realize that the people coding the software that allows me to create this blog want to get paid too. I don't have all the answers yet, but I want this blog to be ad free because ads really do suck. You can't be honest when someone is paying you to promote their product. You can't say, "Try the new Ledger, just don't give them your email because they got hacked and now I get phishing emails from them." Here is how to start your own blog on nostr. My only affiliate link is my BTCpayServer and zaps on nostr.

Here are some testimonials.

I don't have any testimonials. This information is provided free of charge. I do ask if you find value in it please send some value back in the form of time treasure or talent.

Habla is a new nostr native blogging platform. It is the second one I have found. I'm, writing this as a test, but so fair I have noticed my markdown syntax is not being rendered yet. On the other hand, I also seem to be able to see my blogstack post on Habla as well. This is why it's a test. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this all works.

I've been writing a blog about how I use bitcoin since April on a platform namedtw Ghost under a pseudonym. I wrote on that platform for the following reasons:

I want to be a writer

I spend most of my waking hours thinking about bitcoin.

Marty Bent uses Ghost and had this paywall I thought was really cool at the time.

Marty's paywall is actually kind a neat, Instead of asking his readers to pay an annual subscription fee like the New York Times, You could just pay 50 cents per article. This is much better than the New York Times Paywall. When I first heard of it, I thought writers could only get paid on the Internet with a paywall or ads. The mechanics of the system did not leave many options. Lightning addresses worked, but most people never heard of them and even most Bitcoiners didn't use them. Yalls had a paywall, but the UX wasn't great. I first thought of starting a blog because of yalls. I thought I could do magic tricks over video for tips, like buskers in Vegas, but on the Internet. Then I thought, I'm not that good at magic and I don't feel comfortable throwing my face out there like a whore on the Internet (No disrespect to sex workers, but I doubt anyone would pay for my sex services and my wife would not approve.) I also have a degree in creative writing, but I'm a bit rusty. The lightning network got me interested in writing again.

It's what prompted me to run my own lightning node in the first place. I think this was back in 2018 or 2019. At the time, I tried running Pierre Rochard's lightning node, but didn't have the technical chops to pull it off on my old Windows laptop. It might have worked if I knew that I needed to plug the damn thing into an Ethernet cable to download the bitcoin blockchain.(We didn't use the term time chain in those days).

His paywall was an order of magnitude better than running my own node to accept tips on yalls.org, so I started my blog on ghost with the intention of using his paywall software.

I spun up a virtual private server on Bitlaunch.

I installed Yunohost because it was easy to set up Ghost.

Now Marty finally launched his service. If you like this model, you can use it for charges 10 bucks a month.

For the record, I really like Marty. I listen to Rabbit Hole Recap every week. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, or shit on his side project, but @dergigi convinced that the paywall model will soon go the way of the doorstep delivered newspaper. If you don't have time to read or listen to that entire article, please listen to this 30 second clip of the Bitcoin.Review podcast created by Oscar Merry.

Blogs Can Be Nostr Native

There's no reason to spin up a server on a VPS to start a blog anymore. No reason to host it on a Raspberry Pi. You don't need to buy a shared hosting account. You don't need to install ruby, gem or jekyll to host it on Github. You don't even need to buy a domain, although you might want to buy one for a DIY Nip 05 verification. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, you won't even need Github. Habla.news is a Medium alternative, but there's no reason why we couldn't have a Github alternative. We're just waiting on someone to build it.

The reason I find this value 4 value model built on Nostr so exciting now is because it is now trivial for those who produce value to receive value and trivial for those who cherish valuable content to send value to those who produce it.

Why spend the time setting up ghost or pay a fee to accept lightning payments or a ghost account? --*Especially if you are writing a blog about bitcoin.

I like the idea of charging for services, but paywalls just don't jive with the old walled garden model anymore.

Nostr is censorship resistant. Anyone can create a nostr key.

Some freaks say it's not normie ready, but it is much easier to create a private key than create a blog using the aforementioned options. I look forward to the day when we see more no-coiners witnessing how trivial it is to send value over the Internet. @TheGuySwann wrote a great post about how Facebook spent years developing their shitcoin, only to get shut down by congress.

Paywalls Not Required

You couldn't accept native bitcoin on any other platforms until now. Now plebs are zapping each other left and right.

In the value 4 value model, the zapper sets the value on the article. The paywall sets a price on reading the full article.

We don't need paywalls anymore.

I don't need to send you spam .

If you want to read my blog, just follow me on Nostr.

We don't need to rely on digital overlords to create content.

We **don't need ads **to monetize content.

Ads suck.

This is pure vida.

Nostr is the first amendment translated into code like Satoshi translated this math:

Into this code:

We can write without undue influence from ads, corporations, or even governments.

We can create a better Internet.

Code is speech.
Cypherpunks write code.

Nostr makes speech unstoppable.

That's a big fucking deal.
